Are you struggling with one
of your children?
Does your son or daughter experience:
- Excessive tantrums or
angry outbursts?
- Anxiety or fearful
reactions to a variety of situations?
- Difficulties socializing with other children their
own age?
- Oppositional and defiant behaviors?
- Difficulties in school?
- Moodiness or depression (including self-harmful behaviors)?
- Difficulties coping with divorce or loss of a family
member?
- Obsessive thoughts and/or compulsive behaviors?
- Drug or alcohol use?
If so, it may be time to seek professional
help for your child.
Dr. Fasse has over 10 years of experience
working as a counselor with children as young as
three years old, and with teenagers and young adults.
She
has had
extensive training in a wide variety of settings
that have provided help to all ages of children.
With children under the age
of seven, Dr. Fasse primarily uses play therapy,
a very specific and
in-depth way of connecting at the child’s natural
symbolic level of functioning. Play therapy may include
fantasy/make-believe play, doll play, sandtray therapy,
art projects, therapeutic games, puppet play, and
building/construction activities. Play therapy allows
Dr. Fasse to interact with the child in the way that
is most comfortable for the child. This playful interaction
allows children to heal, thereby affecting change
in their feelings and behaviors. Dr. Fasse is working
toward becoming certified as a play therapy counselor
through JFK University. She also works with parents
to develop more effective tools for parenting children
who struggle with emotional difficulties.
Working with troubled teens
can pose many challenges. Dr. Fasse is
an experienced counselor and well trained to help
face these challenges, which include:
developing a trusting relationship
with teens who are very mistrustful of adults; overcoming
resistance to change; helping teens take responsibility
for their actions rather than blame others; and overcoming
the stigma of being in therapy. While she has had
many successful experiences working with troubled
teenagers, Dr. Fasse cannot guarantee that therapy
will be successful for your teenager. The most successful
therapy happens when teens actively participate,
and don’t feel forced into therapy by their
parents.
In addition to working with
children and adolescents individually, Dr.
Fasse is also available to work
as a counselor with whole families or with various
members within the family. Family therapy
can change the maladaptive patterns that have led
to
one family
member acting
out. As Dr. Fasse meets with you to discuss your
problems, together you will determine if individual
or family therapy would best address your child’s
needs. At times, a child may need individual
therapy and the family
could also benefit from ongoing family therapy. If
this is the case for you, Dr. Fasse would
be happy to provide one of these services (either
individual or family) and to refer you to an experienced
colleague for the other. In this way, she would avoid
any conflict of interest and ethically questionable
dual roles.
Dr. Fasse is available for afternoon
and evening appointments at her downtown Benicia,
California office on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please
